I don't think that either of them can deem the sin entirely regrettable. It's possible that they regret the circumstances under which they met, and maybe the result of their meeting, but they cannot feel it to have been an evil thing.
They seem to know what they did was wrong, but they do not regret it. As said before, they might regret how they met, but they also feel happy because they have a reason to be together.
In my opinion neither of them regret their sin. I think they both wish they could have been together without committing a sin but they are both happy of what they have done and the child they have created. This child provides a future for the two of them to share together.
They don't regret their sin much at all. It may have taken a severe toll on both of them, but the rewards of it (being together and Pearl) were worth enduring the intense torture they experienced.
It seems that looking back on it they know their sin was wrong, but they don't regret doing it, and that in the end all their suffering, torture and embarrassment was worth it because they realized once again their love for one another, and Pearl.
Hester and Dimmesdale regret their sin in some aspects. They both have suffered in their own ways. However, this new promise of being together and with Pearl is surely how they imagined things would be when they first got together. Their love is stronger than the oppression and hardships they have endured. T.J. Draper 3rd hour
I think they don't regret their sins entirely because God gave them Pearl. Maybe if Pearl had not been born it might have been different.
Also when they both said how Chillingworth's sin was worse, they showed that they understood that their sin was wrong but there are many sins that other people make that are worse.
Hester and Dimmesdale know that what they did many years ago was wrong. But I don't think they regret it. I honestly don't think they would change what they did if they could, because then they wouldn't have Pearl. Having Pearl is bringing them closer again.
Hester and Dimmesdale both know that they sinned. I believe they regret how they went about the act and that they know they could have easily avoided all the trouble and had a much happier life together.
Hester has accepted her sin because she's had to deal with it publicly. Dimmesdale, on the other hand, is literally dying because of the guilt he faces. But Dimmesdale realized that Chillingworth's sin was worse than theirs. I think that even though Dimmesdale and Hester left the meeting feeling hope for their relationship, thankfulness for Pearl, and freedom from their sin, Dimmesdale still wasn't able to accept what he had done. So instead of facing it, he accepts Hester's advice, and decides to run away from his problems and leave for Europe. To me, this shows that he isn't planning on facing the consequences of his sin. He obviously views his sin as something he can't deal with.
I don't think that they regret doning what they did entirely becaue they both loved each other but i think they have come to a conxlusion that what they did was wrong but it is not the worst sin ever done.
I believe that they know they have commited a sin, and they have some regret for doing it but at the same time it has brought them closer together in the end. I think they are greatful for that part of the outcome although in order to get this far they had to go through a lot.
After seven years i believe Dimesdale and Hester do not have as big as a regret as they did when it first happened. Yes they know what they did was wrong, but they still have real feelings for eachother.
Hester and Dimmesdale love eachother. That has not changed at all in the seven years that they have been apart. They have no regrets of the sin itself, but the actions after the sin have regrets. Kourtney Vara 3rd Hour
I think that they've made ammends with what they did. Personally, i dont think they really regret it at all because to me it seems that they do love each other very strongly. Although they may wish that the reprocutions were never there and they could be free, they don't wish it never happened at all. Everything happens for a reason; i believe that and i think Hester and Dimmesdale do too.
well as we all know they both have committed adultary. But i dont think that was a total bad thing when you think of it in relation to a relationship. It has brought the two alot closer then what they more (more then likely) and now Dimmsdale wants to be with Hester and be Pearl "father figure" now that they have talked about everything and relize the situation they are in.
I agree with Bri that both Hester and Dimmesdale believe that Pearl was given to them for a reason. It seems they still have the love that brought them together in the first place. They don't really regret coming together, but the fact of it being a sin creates some guilt and shame.
They still seem to have passion and love for one another because they are protecting each other in earlier chapters and in the forest it is very clear that there are both physical and emotional feelings for each other. Although they regret the situation they are now in they do not regret that they are now locked together forever by Pearl
They can finally see what good things have turned out from their sin. They have Pearl now and they love her. I agree with Megan that both Hester and Dimmesdale believe that everything happens for a reason and that they don't regret what they have done, just they fact that Dimmesdale is living with the guilt.
I agree with megan on the fact that they do not regret their affair at all. Pearl represents the tie between them and her strength can represent the love of her father and mother. They love each other as much today as they did seven years back. I think that if they regret anything it would be the timing of it all because of the situation that they are in now with Chillingsworth and the state of health that Dimmesdale is in.
Even though they don't regret the sin, Hester feels bad for letting Dimmesdale suffer with it for so long and she feels like she is better off having it out in the open. I think that Dimmesdale knows that even though it seems easier for Hester, he still has a commitment to the people of the church of upholding a certain image. But the two do no regret the sin even though they know that it was wrong.
Although Hester feels guilty and that it's her responsibility that Dimmes dale is suffering so greatly, and even though the pain Dimmesdale is dealing with is unbearable, the two do not regret what they have done. To me it seems like they both love each other very much, and thats all that mattered at the time, so they feel like their sin really is due to the circumstances and time frame, and they don't view it as such a big deal. Pearl, the product of their sin is now bringing the two back together, and they see her as the good that came out of their sin.
They dont really regret what happened between them. They got Pearl our of it. They might want to change somethings, but what happened made the future what it is. Hester i viewed as a strong and "able" women now.
i think that they do feel bad for the decisions they made and the people they hurt. but i think that now they are trying to get over the sin they committed and overall just be together. i think they are happy with where they are and going.
They probably were sorry because of Roger but after he went all insane stalker they probably had a hard time feeling bad for him anymore. I don't think they can honestly say they felt it was a bad thing.
I believe that they both regret sinning, but they do not regret the love they had and still do have for each other. They both do beleve that Pearl was given to them for a reason. They think back over the past seven years and Hester shares her regret for not telling Dimmesdale sooner that Roger Chillingworth is her husband and has come to torture Dimmesdale and Dimmesdale shared how he hasn't ever found peace from the sin he committed.I think after their meeting he does end up finding peace.
Hester and Dimmesdale both regret the bad that their sin has brought them. However, for the most part I don't think they regret the sin itself. Hester did not love Chillingworth and she does love DImmesdale. Both Hester and Dimmesdale are looking forward to a fresh start in a new home where it is just them and Pearl.
They both know that what they did was without a doubt a sin, along with the consequences. On the other hand though the result (pearl) wasn't as big of a regret as she thought because now they are together and they love each other
After 7 years, Dimsdale and Hester both know that what they did was wrong, but yet they don't let it bother them. They have a reason to be together and they are happy. Hester has finally found someone she loves (and same goes for Dimsdale).
I dont think they completely regret their sin, but in some ways they know it was wrong. Having Pearl gives them a reason to be together now, and keeps their relationship closer.
Both Hester and Dimmesdale know what they did was a sin and in the eyes of their society is criticized. But, they don't regret it or think of it as a bad thing. Hester got Pearl and without Pearl it would have been brutal for Hester to endure the social outcast on her own.
They regret their sin. Even after seven years they still love and care about eachother. Their sin brings them closer and they are the only ones that can understand eachother.
both Hester and Arthur Dimmesdale think that something good has come out of all this commotion. They don't regret it one bit. Having sinned and having had a baby gives them both a reasone to be together instead of hiding it from everyone. That is why Dimmesdale can't hide it anymore and confesses to everyone that he was the baby daddy. After he confesses to his sin he feels somewhat better but still bad for having done it in the fist place. Billy Keene 3rd hour
well now, after all these years, they still know what they did was wrong, but, in the previous years they have always regreted it, but now they're more open about it and accepting of what they have done. If this wouldn't have happened between Hester and Dimmesdale, Pearl wouldn't have been created, and now they have a reason to be together and to try to love one another.
I think that at the begining both Hester and Dimsdale deeply regreted their sins. But now that they have Pearl and have had time to think back I think that they are glad about what they had done. They both know what they did was wrong but they find the good in it rather that focusing on the bad.
I think that Hester and Dimmesdale regret their sin but only to a certain extent. I think they regret the timing more than anything else. They both love each other very much and Pearl helps keep them together and she has turned them into a family.
LEAH DUKE WAS RIGHT ON TARGET WITH THIS ONE! Obviously they both know they screwed up but there's a point in life when you just have to keep moving ahead because you can't live in the past. Pearl is their pride and joy and neither of them would trade her for the world. They have both suffered in their own different ways but when push comes to show they love eachother deeply and that's all that matters.
I also agree with Leah. I think there is a little regret in their sin, but their happiness overshadows that. I think it would have been harder for them to get through it without having Pearl as a constant reminder that they are/can be a family.
They feel as if part of them wishes they could go back in time and erase the mistake they have made. On the other hand they are enjoying each others presence. They are realizing that it is time for the situation to blow over and for both of them to move forward.
Dimmsdale and Hester have realized they have commited a major sin. They now realize they can show their love for each other wihout hiding it anymore. If they want to be together, they can now. Ali Stevenson - 1st hour
They may regret the beginning of their relationship because it was filled with sin, but in the end, they know what is best for the two and know they should be together.
Hester and Dimmesdale both know that they have commited sins and they have accepeted it. Now they can move forward with their lives and be together and give Pearl the parents she deserves.
At first it they act exactly like people who havent seen each other in a while, by asking how eachother are aka smalltalk. then they get into what really needs to be said and agree that they both have committed sin. after talking about what to do with Chillingsworth they decide to move forward from this time.
Well sin is considered bad but it still is a point of view. Some people think abortions bad and others think it should be allowed. So whose right? I think that the time period was against that type of behavior but that doesnt matter. They don't regret having Pearl. The puritan ways distort points of view in some cases, like this one.
Hester and Dimmesdale know that it was wrong to commit such a sin, but it seems to me that they don't really regret it. Despite the long time span that had passed, their feelings for each other haven't changed, and they decide to flee to Europe to live together as a family with Pearl.
Like stated before, I think Hester and Dimmesdale don't totally regret their sins. They do regret the adultery, but not totally that is happened. They both have really strong feelings for each other and this was a way for them to be together. Even after seven years their feelings are still strong.
The passion and love for each other is still there after so long of a time apart. They have been reflecting on the sin they commited for seven years but still have not ceased to love each other. This scene in the forest is the first and only time you see both people really happy during their life of sin and shame
They definately still will think about their sin but they will not regret it and they will most likely be together especially if after seven years they still feel for eachother.
